Behavior
Bovideer are generally peaceful, semi-social creatures, forming small herds of 5-15 individuals, typically led by an older matriarch. Males, or "Stag-bulls," are more solitary outside of the breeding season, occasionally joining the herds temporarily. They are known for their calm demeanor and methodical grazing patterns, but can display surprising agility when startled, using their powerful legs to leap over obstacles or charge through dense undergrowth.
These hybrids exhibit a fascinating blend of their parent species' habits. They spend their mornings and late afternoons grazing in open meadows, much like cattle, but retreat into the protective cover of dense forests during midday to ruminate and escape predators. They possess an acute sense of smell and hearing, inherited from their deer ancestry, making them wary and difficult to approach, despite their large size.
Fun Facts
- 🔬 Male Bovideer grow magnificent antlers each year, which can span up to six feet across, resembling a fusion of moose antlers and a bull's horns. They use these in ritualistic sparing during the rut.
- 🔬 Their hide is a unique blend of a deer's mottled brown and a cow's solid earthy tones, often exhibiting a dappled, camouflage pattern on their back and flanks, fading to a lighter belly.
- 🔬 Bovideer milk is incredibly rich and creamy, rumored to possess restorative properties, though obtaining it is a perilous task due to their wild nature.
