Behavior
Striderhawks are apex aerial predators, exhibiting a unique blend of hunting techniques. They possess the raw power and sharp talons of a hawk, capable of seizing prey from the ground or plucking it from trees. However, they also share the breathtaking stooping dive and pursuit speed of a falcon, allowing them to engage in high-velocity aerial chases. They are highly territorial, defending vast hunting grounds with aggressive aerial displays.
These solitary creatures prefer to nest on inaccessible cliff ledges or in the tallest, most remote trees within old-growth forests, often returning to the same nesting site for many years. Their nests are large, sturdy platforms constructed from sticks and lined with moss and fur. Striderhawks communicate primarily through sharp, piercing cries that can carry for miles, often signaling their presence to rivals or potential mates. They are crepuscular, most active during dawn and dusk.
