Hippolions are fiercely territorial creatures, typically solitary or found in small, matriarchal family units consisting of a mother and her calves. They exhibit a unique blend of their parent species' temperaments; while capable of the patient grazing of a hippo, they possess the predatory instincts and explosive aggression of a lion, especially when their territory or young are threatened. They are most active during dusk and dawn, using the cover of low light for both grazing and hunting, and retreating to water during the heat of the day.
These magnificent beasts spend their days submerged in rivers and muddy pools, using the water as both a sanctuary from the sun and a strategic ambush point for unsuspecting prey. At night, they emerge onto land to graze on lush vegetation and patrol their extensive territories. Their powerful jaws and sharp teeth are equally adept at crushing plant matter or delivering a fatal bite to a large animal, making them apex predators in their unique niche.
