The Giltail is an incredibly elusive and shy creature, spending most of its life hidden amongst dense aquatic vegetation or submerged logs. Its fox-like cunning is complemented by the swift, silent movements of a fish, allowing it to navigate both dense undergrowth and murky waters with equal grace. They are primarily solitary, only seeking out a mate during a brief spring breeding season, and communicate through subtle shifts in their iridescent scales and soft, chirping barks that carry surprisingly well underwater.
During the day, Giltails can be found foraging along the water's edge, using their sensitive whiskers and keen eyesight to detect prey both above and below the surface. They often construct semi-aquatic dens, burrowing into soft riverbanks with an entrance both underwater and on land, providing an escape route no matter the threat. At night, they become more active, venturing further into the water to hunt larger prey or bask under the moonlight, their scales shimmering with an ethereal glow.
