Flamifoxes are generally solitary or found in small family groups, a blend of the fox's independence and the flamingo's loose colonial nature. They are crepuscular, active at dawn and dusk, using their acute senses of smell and hearing to locate prey both in shallow waters and along the marshy banks. Their unique physical adaptations allow them to wade silently through water on their long, slender legs, then burst into a quick, pouncing attack like a fox to snatch hidden prey.
They are highly territorial, marking their extensive wetland domains with scent. During the day, they often retreat to dense reeds or burrows dug into higher ground to avoid predators and rest. Mating season sees males engaging in elaborate, flamingo-like courtship dances, though typically for a single mate rather than in large flocks. They are fiercely protective of their nests, which are typically elevated mud mounds reinforced with reeds and sticks, often located near a hidden den entrance.
