Whiskertun

The Whiskertun exhibits a fascinating dual behavior, combining the migratory schooling instincts of its tuna lineage with the stealthy, bottom-feeding tendencies of the catfish. They are often observed in loose aggregations near nutrient-rich upwellings, utilizing their streamlined bodies for bursts of speed to pursue schooling fish and squid. However, unlike pure tuna, they possess a keen sense of smell and touch via their prominent barbels, allowing them to locate benthic invertebrates and crustaceans in murky waters or along the seabed, especially during twilight hours.

Primarily inhabiting the productive ecotones where nutrient-rich freshwater outflow meets coastal marine environments, Whiskertuns thrive in brackish waters and the open ocean alike. They are known to travel considerable distances along coastlines, following prey schools and water temperature gradients, often migrating to deeper, cooler waters during the day and ascending to feed in shallower zones at night. During breeding season, they are believed to seek out specific coastal regions with a mix of rocky outcrops and sandy bottoms, where their eggs can settle and be protected.
