Behavior
The Antlermouse is an incredibly shy and elusive creature, primarily nocturnal. They are solitary for most of the year, coming together only briefly for mating. Their acute senses of hearing and smell, combined with incredibly fast reflexes, make them very difficult to spot in the wild. Despite their timid nature, males are known to engage in tiny, elaborate sparring matches with their miniature antlers during the breeding season, often resulting in comical displays of push and shove rather than serious injury.
These diminutive hybrids prefer to build elaborate burrow systems under the root systems of old trees or dense thickets, lining their nests with soft moss and shredded plant material. They are agile climbers, capable of scaling small shrubs and saplings to forage for berries and inspect for predators. Their small size allows them to navigate dense undergrowth with ease, making them excellent at evading larger threats. They also have a habit of caching food in various spots within their territory, especially before winter.
