Penguack

The Penguack exhibits a fascinating blend of its ancestors' social structures. They form small, tight-knit colonies, often seen waddling with an almost comical upright posture on land, much like a penguin, but with a slightly more agile, less rigid gait due to their stronger leg structure. While they are expert swimmers and divers, using their powerful flipper-like wings for propulsion underwater, their wings are also capable of short, powerful bursts of flight, allowing them to escape land predators or navigate short distances between water bodies, a trait inherited from their duck lineage. They are generally peaceful but can be fiercely protective of their nesting sites.

These adaptable creatures build their nests in burrows dug into soft coastal soil or among dense reeds in brackish water, preferring areas that offer both easy access to the sea for hunting and freshwater sources for drinking and preening. Penguacks spend a significant portion of their day foraging, demonstrating a preference for hunting in shallow coastal waters during dawn and dusk. They communicate through a unique series of honks, quacks, and high-pitched chirps, creating a surprisingly melodious cacophony within their colonies.
