Behavior
The Krowi is a highly intelligent, primarily crepuscular creature, often active at dawn and dusk, though occasionally seen foraging during the day. While possessing wings, these are largely vestigial and too small for sustained flight, limiting the Krowi to short, clumsy glides or powerful hops over obstacles. It is known for its incredible problem-solving skills, reminiscent of its crow lineage, often using tools found in its environment to extract grubs or break open nuts. Despite its intelligence, it is a shy and solitary creature, only coming together with others during mating season.
These elusive birds prefer the deep cover of dense temperate forests and mixed woodlands, where the thick undergrowth provides ample foraging opportunities and protection from predators. Krowi spend most of their time on the forest floor, using their powerful legs to dig burrows for nesting and shelter, and their long, sensitive beaks to probe the soil for invertebrates. They communicate through a complex repertoire of soft clicking sounds, trills, and occasionally, a muffled, resonant 'caw' that is surprisingly deep for their size.
