Behavior
Kibees are primarily crepuscular, emerging at dawn and dusk to forage for sustenance. Despite their flightless nature, they possess vestigial wings that vibrate constantly, producing a low, comforting hum that aids in communication within their small family units, known as 'buzzles'. These creatures are generally gentle but can be territorial, using their distinctive hum to warn off intruders before resorting to a defensive posture.
They live in self-dug burrows or nest within hollow logs, often lining their chambers with a waxy secretion to store small quantities of nectar and pollen. Their long, sensitive beak functions as a remarkable proboscis, allowing them to probe deep into ground-level flowers for nectar and pollen, and simultaneously to sniff out and extract grubs, worms, and small insects from the leaf litter and soil. When threatened, a Kibee may deliver a mild, localized sting from a tiny barb at the tip of its abdomen, causing temporary paralysis rather than intense pain.
