The Mellifant exhibits a complex social structure, living in small, matriarchal herds of 5-10 individuals. These herds, led by an ancient 'Queen-Matriarch', display a cooperative, hive-like focus on foraging and defense. Mellifants are generally placid, spending their days slowly flapping their wings to maintain position while siphoning nectar with their elongated proboscis. When threatened, they can deliver a powerful, venomous sting with a barbed stinger located at the tip of their tail-like abdomen, a painful deterrent rarely used unless their young or matriarch are endangered.
These majestic creatures prefer open woodlands and savannas where large, nectar-rich flowering plants are abundant.
